President Obama’s speech at the National Academy of Sciences Monday morning hit a brief snag when Obama got ahead of his script.
Robert Reich, a Democrat and a fan of this President, had ,this to say about Obama's 100 days:
I give them an F. I’m a big fan of this administration, but I’ve got to be honest. The bailouts are failing. So far American taxpayers have shoveled out almost $600 billion. Yet the banks are lending less money than they did five months ago. Their toxic assets and nonperforming loans are growing, bank executives are still taking home princely sums, and the banks are still cooking their books. Through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, we have begun to modernize 75% of all federal building space, which has the potential to reduce long-term energy costs by billions of dollars on behalf of taxpayers. We are providing grants to states to help weatherize hundreds of thousands of homes, which will save the families that benefit about $350 each year. That’s like a $350 tax cut.
First off, saving $350 a year on energy savings is not “like a tax cut”. He tried making that same argument about lower interest rates on mortgages, too. The grant helps in paying for the weatherization, but the cost savings are just that. A tax cut is when government takes less of your money, not when energy companies take less of your money. By that definition, a broken lightbulb is like a tax cut, too, and thanks to cap-and-trade, it’ll get you used to the dark, too.
Thus far, the Obama administration seems more interested in continuing its global apology tour, Latin edition, during this weekend's Fifth Summit of the Americas than he is in leading. His accusations against America are stronger than his promotion of the institutions and treaties that bring authentic democracy and prosperity to our hemisphere.IBD Editorial
Look at that smile, as if Obama has found his lost friend! Today Obama made sure to greet Chavez during his South American "apology" tour. I bet Obama did not bother to ask Chavez about how he is crushing his opposition in Venezuela. Our dear President just wants to look good in the world regardless of how his embrace of dictators are affecting human rights issues. Just today we leaned that the mayor of Venezuela's second largest city is missing, apparently the latest casualty of a crackdown on opposition by President Hugo Chavez that observers are calling outright persecution.
Aboard Air Force One en route to Mexico City, White House press secretary came back to "gaggle" with us, though he said the gaggle could not be on camera.
Here are the two questions I asked during the gaggle.
TAPPER: First of all, just for the record, I'd like to voice my objection to this being off camera, on behalf of the TV people. President Obama has said that it's --
GIBBS: To be on camera, Jake, you'd have to comb your hair. (Laughter.)
TAPPER: No, I wouldn’t --
GIBBS: -- for the record.
TAPPER: -- the camera would be on you. The camera would be on you.

“We were pre-screened, asked by officials “Who voted for Obama?”, and then those who raised their hands were shuffled to the front of the receiving line. They even handed out digital cameras and asked them to hold them up.”
Take a look at the picture at AP and notice all the cameras are the same models? Coincidence? I think not.

His performance at the first press conference in London with Gordon Brown featured moments in which he sparkled - his riff on loving the Queen was a high-point. But most of the serious answers that I listened to were interminable, windy and not very impressive. At points there were pauses so long that it appeared he had simply lost his train of thought.A wind-bag!!! wow...well, lets wait and see if American press will agree with him in a year from now. We will be here to document it.::But Obama was only warming up. "When I was born," (Everything usually leads back to him, you'll notice)... "the world was divided, and our nations were faced with very different circumstances. Few people would have predicted that someone like me would one day become an American President." (Him again)...The Obamas have handled their trip well and in their public appearances have been a credit to their country. But I'll wager that within a year or so he'll be marked down as a wind-bag.
We know that transformational change is possible. We know this because of three reasons: First, because, for all our differences, there are certain values that bind us together and reveal our common humanity: the universal longing to live a life free from fear, and free from want; a life marked by dignity and respect and simple justice.So freedom from "fear" and "want" are Western values that bind us together? Since when? That's kind of bizarre. Freedom from "want" and "simple justice" sound more like something Karl Marx would say than George Washington.
Our two republics were founded in service of these ideals. In America, it is written into our founding documents as "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." In France: "Liberté" -- (applause) -- absolutely -- "egalité, fraternité." (Applause.) Our moral authority is derived from the fact that generations of our citizens have fought and bled to uphold these values in our nations and others.
Cecilia Dervogne, a student at the University of Strasbourg, was among a noisy crowd of well-wishers greeting the Obamas as they arrived today.How childish Obama acted. Is this how we want our President act on the world stage, while his wife is just 2 step behind?
As they approached the crowd to shake hands, Ms Dervogne called out to him.
'I said in slightly hesitating English... 'A kiss for me?'' Ms Dervogne told i-tele television.
'He showed me his bodyguards, who were surveying everything. I think there was a security gap we were supposed to keep to,' she said.
Mr Obama also apparently pointed out that his wife, Michelle, was watching.
But Mr Sarkozy would not be deterred, Ms Devogne said.
'And there was Mr Sarkozy who re-insisted and said: 'What, you're not going to give her a kiss?'
'So he offered his cheek timidly and I gave him a kiss.'
When Obama met Saudi Arabian King Abdullah, he sank into a bow that made some watching wonder if he was fixing to lick the king’s shoes. At its best it is unbecoming of an American President to bow to a foreign king, or its just cluelessUPDATE: With bowed head and bended knee
